For many of their examples they use the package ISLR. Unfortunately, I struggle with an example: They install the package I have tried it in R and RStudio and execute the following code. Error in file file, "rt" : cannot open the connection In addition: Warning message: In file file, "rt" : cannot open file 'Auto. I also tried to attach the package with the command library ISLR after downloading it - without success.

I am not sure if the issue is related to the path of the package but I don't believe so. At least I tried to save the package in my working directory.

I feel a bit stupid as the task looks more than easy. If anyone could help out, it would be much appreciated.

In particular, the Cleveland database is the only one that has been used by ML researchers to this date. The "goal" field refers to the presence of heart disease in the patient.

It is integer valued from 0 no presence to 4. Experiments with the Cleveland database have concentrated on simply attempting to distinguish presence values 1,2,3,4 from absence value 0. The names and social security numbers of the patients were recently removed from the database, replaced with dummy values. One file has been "processed", that one containing the Cleveland database. All four unprocessed files also exist in this directory. Only 14 attributes used: 1. Detrano, R. ISLR: Data for an Introduction to Statistical Learning with Applications in R

The book also contains a number of R labs with detailed explanations on how to implement the various methods in real life settings, and should be a valuable resource for a practicing data scientist. Winner of the Eric Ziegel award from Technometrics. For a more advanced treatment of these topics: The Elements of Statistical Learning. Slides and video tutorials related to this book by Abass Al Sharif can be downloaded here.

Inspired by "The Elements of Statistical Learning'' Hastie, Tibshirani and Friedmanthis book provides clear and intuitive guidance on how to implement cutting edge statistical and machine learning methods.

ISL makes modern methods accessible to a wide audience without requiring a background in Statistics or Computer Science. The authors give precise, practical explanations of what methods are available, and when to use them, including explicit R code.

Anyone who wants to intelligently analyze complex data should own this book. As a textbook for an introduction to data science through machine learning, there is much to like about ISLR. As a junior at university, it is by far the most well-written textbook I have ever used, a sentiment mirrored by all my other classmates.

One friend, graduating this spring with majors in Math and Data Analytics, cried out in anger that no other textbook had ever come close to the quality of this one. You and your team have turned one of the most technical subjects in my curriculum into an understandable and even enjoyable field to learn about. Every concept is explained simply, every equation justified, and every figure chosen perfectly to clearly illustrate difficult ideas.

This is the only textbook I have ever truly enjoyed reading, and I just wanted to thank you and all other contributors for your time and efforts in its production. Then, if you finish that and want more, read The Elements of Statistical Learning. Full review here. Linear Regression? I covered that last year. Wake me up when we get to Support Vector Machines! There are a lot of different storylines at play on Sunday, when the 10-2 Eagles visit the 9-3 Rams at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in what will likely be the biggest game of Week 14. Not only will the game feature a matchup of two of the top teams in the NFC, it will also be the first head-to-head matchup between Rams quarterback (and former No.

Then there's the whole Eagles-practicing-in-LA angle, as well as the comparisons between the two upstart teams' young coaches, Doug Pederson and Sean McVay. But perhaps the most interesting angle is something I came across earlier on Friday while rounding up the experts' picks from around the country. It came from NFL.

The Eagles will try to make this a grind it out rushing attack game, as the Rams' biggest weakness is defending the run. The Eagles have a significant advantage on the ground, while I don't see a big difference in these two teams through the air. I admittedly do not feel great about this game. It seems like a good opportunity for a bounce back, but you think back over the last month or so and there have been a fair amount of slow starts against good and bad completion alike.

Playing with fire on a weekly basis will eventually come back and burn you. But given their performance so far this season, I think Pederson, Wentz and the gang deserve some benefit of the doubt to prove they can bounce back. And besides, this could end up being a borderline home game for the Eagles.

The network broadcasting the game is hiring Rams fans to show up for pre-game, for crying out loud. It wasn't easy to pick the Eagles in this one, especially since I picked them a week ago and was wrong. But before the team embarked on this current two-game swing out west, I was fairly confident that they would return to Philly on Monday with a 1-1 record in those two games.

It just turns out that I picked the wrong game. Had the Birds won in Seattle, their inevitable reality check would've come this week in L. But since that wasn't the case, I think its safe to say the Eagles will bounce back this week at the Coliseum, which will likely be filled with more fans wearing midnight green than blue and gold. I don't believe the Rams defense will be good enough to keep the Birds high-flying offense in check, so the real matchup in this one will likely be between the Eagles defense and the Rams offense.

And while Goff and Wentz will be getting most of the headlines, the real difference-maker on Sunday could be Todd Gurley, who is currently on pace for over 2,000 yards from scrimmage this season.

One way the Eagles offense can help limit Gurley's damage is by getting an early lead and forcing Goff to throw on them, something they were unable to do against Russell Wilson and the Seahawks. In other words, expect a tight game on Sunday, one in which almost anything can happen. See this section for more details. Make sure to use the full path if the file is not in your current directory.
